Event Recap and Results | Season 3: Rd.4 at Streets of Willow (CW) – 05/28/16

Fast times and competition is good for the soul! Round 4 was yet another sold-out event and it was held at the Streets of Willow racetrack at the famous Willow Springs International Raceway. This track is known to be a medium-speed road course that challenges drivers with a series of tight and technical turns. Despite the hot weather, some incredibly fast times were set and even a few Vtec Club records were broken.

In Group A, Nik Romano #125 took first place with a new personal best time and class record in the F22-powered Miata by Indotech Motorsports. His blazing fast time of 1:23.200 is a sign that their Miata is here to compete and ready to become the top dog for Group A. In second place, we have Alex Zhao #133 who is also set to be a top contender in his Kraftwerks-equipped supercharged S2000. Alex was able set a time of 1:24.487, which is also a new personal best. He mentioned that the car had cooling issues throughout the day (due to more power), which kept the car from performing to its full potential. This was merely a shakedown for Alex and he now has plans to solve his cooling issues with a Koyorad radiator and oil cooler. Finally, in third place we have Craig Utter #148 in his EG Civic with a time of 1:32.889. Craig’s Civic, which was once turbo-charged, is now running a new B-series N/A setup. Unfortunately, the new setup gave Craig some problems which he hopes to have resolved before the next event. We would love to see some more competition in Group A at future events!

  1. Nik Romano – F22 Miata – 1:23.200 (New class record!)
  2. Alex Zhao – S2000 – 1:24.487
  3. Craig Utter – Civic – 1:32.889

In Group A2, Matt Rojana #1 from Ballade Sports once again dominated the class with a fast time of 1:24.510. With this win, Matt has now clinched the first place overall position for Season 3. In second place, Jose Mejia #191 brought out his K-powered EM Civic and clocked in a dashing time of 1:25.813. Unfortunately, Jose had a mishap on Turn-1 which forced him to retire the car and end his chase for first place.  And in third, we have Ronnie Vajdak #155 who was able to put down a time of 1:26.303 with the Track Monsters DC Integra. The battle for third place was close as the 4th place driver, Angelo Marasigan #18, followed closely within a few tenths of second.

  1. Matt Rojana – S2000 – 1:24.510
  2. Jose Mejia – Civic – 1:25.813

In Group N, Sean Mulyanto #73, who was last year’s Group N champion, was able to set a new personal best time and class record with a 1:24.812! Sean once again dominated the class and showed that driver-mod is the best mod. With this win, Sean has now clinched the first place overall position for Season 3. For second and third place, the battles between the top 5 drivers were closely fought where each driver were separated by only a few tenths of a second! In second place, we have Clement Kwong #28 in his “Pacman” S2000 with a time of 1:27.138. And in 3rd, we have Martin Le #13 in yet another S2000 with a time of 1:27.177. The battle for 2nd and 3rd were so intense that we saw multiple lead changes throughout the day.

  2. Clement Kwong – S2000 – 1:27.138

And finally, we have Group N2, the “slowest” yet arguably the most fun class in the series. It was an “EF party” on podium as the top 5 cars were all piloting (the soon to be antique) 88-91 Honda Civics. In pole position, we have Duane Bada #5 with a time of 1:30.130. Right behind him for second place is Ryan Constantino #125 with a time of 1:31.692, a new personal best for Ryan. And in third place, we have Steven Chavez with a time of 1:33.361, a new personal best for Steven and also his first time with a podium finish!
